We start all of our projects with a walkthrough of your home and a review of your house plans to ensure that the system we design for you meets the security and fire alarm requirements of both you and the State of Florida. We offer 3 levels of systems:
Level 1: Security Burglar Alarm Systems - With our burglar alarm-only systems, we design your alarm system with intrusion protection in mind. Usually these systems include a keypad to arm and disarm the alarm system. Then we add sensors to the doors and optionally to the windows. We usually also add a handful of motion detectors as required.
Level 2: Life Safety Fire Alarm - With this level, we add on smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and, where necessary, heat detectors. These smoke detectors are networked together and designed to be monitored by the alarm system, as opposed to smoke detectors that may be installed by electricians and only provide a local alarm.

- Integrated Fall Pendants: These pendants can be hung around your neck or attached to a wrist strap, and they include a single button that notifies the monitoring station of a medical emergency.
- Door Bell Triggers: These wire into your existing doorbell, enabling you to automatically trigger defined actions when the door bell is rung. Start recording video, turn on the porch lights, and set other scenes.
- Electrical Outlets and Light Bulbs: When our outlets and light bulbs are connected to your security system, there are a multitude of programmable functions, from turning on the lights when the door bell is pressed to turning on the house lights when an alarm is triggered.
- Alarm Sirens: These sirens are designed to be loud enough to wake you and your family up in the event of an alarm. Please note that smoke detectors also have built in alarm sirens which will operate independently and in conjunction to the overall sirens.

What Happens When There Is An Alarm?
Your Security System Alarm Sounds!!! What Happens Next? Our security alarm system is capable of a large number of functions, but its primary function is to keep you, your family, and your property safe. Once an alarm is triggered, you are given the opportunity to turn off the alarm with your code before the system notifies the monitoring station in most situations. The exception is when a fire or medical alarm goes off, then the monitoring station is notified immediately to dispatch the appropriate emergency people. Below we describe the main steps your Security System will go through in order to provide you with the most appropriate response and help.
System Armed
The first thing to remember when you leave the home or go to bed is set your alarm; once you have installed and set the alarm it will actively monitor for intrusion, motion, and smoke. There are 2 ways to arm and activate your security alarm system:
- System Armed AWAY: In this mode your alarm system monitors all your doors and windows for openings and closings. If you come home and open your front door or garage door, we will program the alarm system to provide you with a 60 second delay. But if a window is opened in this mode, then the alarm will go off instantly. The same applies to any motion detectors inside your home that detect motion above a certain size. Our motion detectors are designed to ignore your pets like dogs and cats. If you have a very large dog, we do have large pet motion detectors. You should set this mode when everyone leaves the home.
- System Armed HOME: In this mode, your alarm system will only monitor your doors and windows, but will disregard any motion detectors inside your home. You should set this mode when you go to bed at night.
- Fire Alarm Monitoring: If you have smoke detectors installed with your home security alarm, these will be continuously active, no matter what mode you set your alarm system to. The smoke detectors will be watching for any smoke and if detected, they will immediately sound the alarm and contact the emergency services.
Alarm Notification
Once the security alarm system goes into alarm mode, it immediately sends a signal to the central station monitoring your home. This signal can be sent several different ways;
- Phone Line: The most common way to send alarm signals is through telephone, but the inherent problem with this method is that your phone lines can be cut by an intruder.
- Internet Network: While it is not used very often, alarm signals can also be sent over the internet. This is probably one of the most unreliable methods.
- Wireless Cellular: The most secure and reliable method is via a cellular transmitter (a mini cellphone) that is built right into your alarm panel. This is the method that we at Security Safe use 95% of the time.
Emergency Dispatch
Upon receipt of the signal from your alarm panel, the operator at the dispatch center will follow different actions depending on the type of alarm.
- Intrusion Burglar Alarm: The dispatch operator will promptly call the home for personal identification and verification of the person’s authorization to be on customer premises. If there is no answer after a maximum of six (6) rings, the dispatch operator will dispatch the police or other responding entity. If the telephone is answered, the dispatch operator will obtain pass code verification that the person is authorized to be on the premises.
- Fire Alarm: The dispatch operator will promptly call to determine the cause; if the telephone is not answered after a maximum of six (6) rings, the operator will transmit the alarm again to the Public Fire Service Communication Center who will dispatch the emergency services.
- Medical Alarm: When the dispatch operator receives an EMA signal, the operator will telephone the subscriber to confirm a problem exists. If a true emergency exists, then the dispatch operator will call the emergency response agency and request emergency response service.
- Panic Alarm: Unless otherwise noted, the dispatch operator will verify the signal by calling the subscriber premises. If no contact is made or improper identification is given, the monitoring facility will dispatch the authorities.
Emergency Response
Once the dispatch operator has determined that there is an emergency, or received a response, then they will request the appropriate emergency service(s) to respond to the alarm. Due to the high number of false intrusion alarms, some police departments may have different response guidelines. It all depends where you move; if your new home is in our service area, then we can simply transfer your account to your new address. We will just need to update all the contact information correctly so that in the event of an emergency, the dispatch operator is able to send the emergency service to the correct address.
If you move outside our service area, you will need to notify us with at least a 30 day notice along with proof that you are moving outside our servive area. After this information is recived, we will cancel your account. On some account we will either need to come pick up our equipment or charge the balance due on the equipment.
On average, having an actively monitored security alarm in your home can reduce your homeowner’s insurance up to 20 percent. Many insurance campanies will give additional discounts if you also have monitored smoke detectors.
Pet immune motion detectors disregard the motion caused by animals weighing less than 80 pounds (in many instances). Most security system motion detectors use passive infrared (PIR) motion detector technology to monitor heat changes in a designated area.
With a traditional motion detector, when your pet enters the coverage area, a tripped sensor causes a false alarm. Pet-immune motion detectors ignore the motion caused by animals and thus reduce the likelihood of a false alarm. Features vary by manufacturer and model, but can include selectable sensitivity for pets up to 40 pounds or those weighing up to 80 pounds and can be set to disregard one large pet, like a full-grown dog or several small pets, like cats.
“Home security” doesn’t only refer to houses; it applies just as much to apartments. Renters have possessions as valuable as homeowners, so they are just as vulnerable, if not statistically more.
The same burglary methods apply: burglars will most often attack during the day, and they look for empty apartments with easy access, plenty of cover, and the best escape routes. Studies show that more than 30 percent of all apartment burglars accessed the unit through an open door or window. For these reasons, it is important to consider and invest in apartment security measures that will keep you, your family, and your possessions safe.
Some wireless security systems can function during power outages. It depends on the method of communication between the security system and the monitoring center. If the Internet or VoIP is used, then the alarm system will lose connectivity in the event of an Internet outage. If cellular radio is used, then your alarm system will be able to maintain communication even when the power is out and you can’t get Internet service.
False alarms can take police away from real emergencies. When your home security system activates, it's like dialing 911, the police respond as if there is an emergency. False alarms can lead neighbors to ignore your alarm if it happens repeatedly. Taking the time to understand your home security system will prevent repeated false alarms.
